Most local shopping and eating outlets are located in the nearby
village of Killin which is just over 2 miles away.
Shops
The village of Killin offers a varied range of shops, there are
of course various places to by gifts and local souvenirs, but also
a choice of grocery stores and utility outlets. The Killin
Outdoor Centre supplies a full range of outdoor clothing, maps
and guides etc plus advice on local walks and weather forecasts.
Here you can also hire mountain bikes, canoes and skiing kit when
the weather dictates. Most shops are open 7 days a week in the high
season and the local Co-op opens 7 days throughout the year and
till 10pm most of the year (closes 8pm on Sundays) and also a branch
of Cost Cutters.
The local Post Office supplies camera films and offers a next day
processing service.
Pubs and Restaurants
There are various pubs and restaurants in the village from the
snug to the more formal. Recently refurbished is the Falls of Dochart
Inn with huge open fire and seperate resturant. This is ideally
situated overlooking the Falls of Dochart (hence the name !), a
well renowned landmark. Also the Coach House towards the far end
of the town specialise in local bands to compliment their excellent
food and good charm - our personal favorites are Box
O' Bananas and The
Shoes so watch out for them.
For that very special occasion another restaurant reputed for excellent
food is The Craigard that can be found halfway through the village.
or for something a little less formal you cannot beat the Fish and
Chippy van in the car park of the Village Hall (high seasons months
only), its varied menu includes fresh fish and locally caught Haggis.
Finally the only local petrol station is the Lix Toll garage which
is outside the village on the main A85 road some 500yds from the
entrance to Wester Lix. Their hours are 8 am to 8.30 pm in summer
and 9 am to 6 pm in winter. In addition to the normal filling station
facilities they offer full vehicle repair and tyre services.
